I dragged my robotic-friend by his metal hand deep into the forest. The sunburn from our long desert-traveling was bright red against my normally pale skin...ugh. There goes my complexion. I don't tan, I burn. Well, maybe I tan a little, but it's more pain than it's worth!
"There has to be someone around here who can tell us where we are." I muttered, half to him and half to myself, scanning the surrounding area as I chose a dirt path at random.
I didn't expect to meet our guide the way we did.
One second I'm walking along with a big ol' machine tromping along behind me, and the next thing I know, a floating globe of water explodes over my head. Water+me=a very annoyed Roxy, lemme tell ya, so I whirled on the person responsible...and stopped.
She was standing there, hands cupped over her mouth, warm brown eyes wide in horror. Slender, but somewhat on the short side, she didn't seem to be much older than I am. That is, until I noticed the elegantly pointed ears poking up from her long chestnut-brown hair. She was an elf. Great. A practically immortal being just dumped a load of water on my head, and I know enough to refrain from picking a fight. Lovely. Just lovely. Gotta love Karma.
She was pretty, no, stunning, but something about her made me think of the typical blonde popular prep. Cute, sweet, and...a total ditz. Not that I'm dissing blondes or anything, blondes rock, but there's a stereotype for a reason!
"Um...hi. Okay, I probably deserved that, but what the heck?" I finally said.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!" She gasped, stepping forward. Then she must have seen Atlas, because she stopped dead and stared.

Atlas quickly found himself being dragged into the forest by his hand. Not that there was any complaints, because at least now he had a friend to travel with. A friend. Thinking about it again, Roxy was his first and only friend. Walking without actually thinking about any kind of destination, Atlas suddenly stops when he hears water splash all over Roxy, and he looked around for a moment to see where so much water could have possibly come from in such a short time.
His vision soon fell on the lithe form of a female elf, and the first reaction that came to mind was pulling out one of his four elemental katanas. Atlas' ice sword was pulled halfway out of it's sheath when the elven girl quickly burst out in apology, and he slowly resheathed it. He still stood relatively tense, not fully knowing what to expect from an elf. When the girl stopped and stared at Atlas after taking a step toward Roxy, he took a step forward himself, looking back down at her with enigmatic blue slightly wavering orbs.

"Why does everyone do that?" I asked aloud, turning to look at Atlas with exasperation. "Come on, he isn't that weird looking. What if you were a giant walking, talking machine and every time someone saw you they stopped dead and stared like an idiot? Hm? How would you feel?"
Okay, I was probably overdoing it just a little. The poor girl didn't know what to do with herself. Stammaring out apologies, hands moving helplessly; well, I sort of, kinda, maybe felt bad for her, but only a little bit!
"Calm down, it's fine. Who are you, anyway?" I asked. The girl hesitated, then spoke in her melodious tones. Her voice had an exotic trill to it, which I supposed was a characteristic of an elf.
"My...my name is Cimorene." She said. I shrugged. "O...kay. Hi, Cimorene. I'm Roxy, this is Atlas, and we're lost."
Her expression immediately flashed to concern and compassion. Yep, this girl was a pushover ditz. "Oh, do you need help? Are you hurt? Oh my goodness!" I turned to Atlas and rolled my eyes as she stepped forward and nearly fell flat on her face. Clumsy, too-nice-for-her-own-good, and dumb. Still, it was all I had to work with.
"We're fine, but can you tell us where we are?" I asked. She nodded eagerly. "This is the Gaia forest, Ilmari." Cimorene said. Wow, Ilmari? Dang.

Atlas was indeed grateful for Roxy defending him, but the elf's reaction was fully expected and dismissed as nothing to fret over. He learned to accept the fact that he was nothing more than a heavy pile of animated metal with a kitchen's worth of knives strapped to the back of his waist. He made a mental note of the girl's name, then began looking around from where he stood. Although weather made no difference seeing as he couldn't actually feel anything, he could sense the changes in climate, among other things.
The young elven girl seemed overly concerned to Atlas, probably having been out of contact with other life for quite some time. When Cimorene finally explained where they ended up, it did Atlas no good. He had no idea where Ilmari was, or what kind of inhabitants it has. To him, they were still lost.
"So we're in Gaia Forest. Where do we head from here in order to reach the nearest town or city?"
Atlas spoke as though he knew about Gaia Forest, when truly he was clueless.

Cimorene hesitated, and I could practically see the wheels turning in her head. Slowly. With rusted axises. Geez. Finally, she spoke again, that little smile returning to her face as she appeared to have gotten the answer she was looking for. "Well?" I pressed impatiently.
"We're on the very edge of the Gaia forest right now, the edge that border's Erebos's deserts. The nearest place is three weeks' journey on horseback, and I'm not sure..." She looked doubtfully at Atlas, and I felt my temper rise slightly. Through gritted teeth, I snarled, "We don't ride."
She looked at me for a second, taken aback by my tone, then smiled again. "Okay. If you like, I can lead you there!"
Oh. My. Gawd.
Forcing a smile, I turned to look at Atlas and see what he thought of her...proposition.

Atlas stood there as Cimorene began thinking about where they were, and it took her so long to respond that he doubted that she even knew to begin with. It hadn't surprised him to hear that they were still relatively close to Erebos. Despite that, he knew that it would take weeks for anyone to come close to catching either one of them. Then the elven girl stated that it would also take weeks to reach the nearest civilization.....on horseback no less.
Atlas scoffed inwardly at her even mentioning using horses, given what he was. She had to know that riding animals of any kind were out of the question with him. He crossed his arms defiantly, then looked over at Roxy when she verbally expressed his thoughts, apparently with equal irritation.
"How exactly are you planning to lead us wherever there is."
Atlas somehow found it necessary to emphasize the 'exactly' in his question in an attempt to get a direct, non-cryptic answer out of this confused individual.

"How exactly are you planning to lead us wherever there is."
Cimorene looked up at the big robot with a smile that was completely genuine, despite the fact that she seemed a bit uncomfortable with him. Not that I can really, technically, fairly blame her...he is a bit scary, especially if you aren't used to him. I tuned her out as she answered, trusting Atlas to make the right decision while I looked around. The Gaia forest was...confusing. Somehow, I had a feeling that we wouldn't make it through without a guide.
"Well, I'm an elf, so I know my way through any forest really well. You two would probably get lost and then wander around for months!"
I heard her answer (despite my best attempts at ignoring it) and had to admit that it sounded reasonable. Have I mentioned how much I hate it when idiots are right about something?
"What do you think?" I asked Atlas. Maybe he had some built-in map-system--that sometimes failed him, which is why he had no idea where we were--that could get us out of here without running into Kadin and being forced to use this ditzy elf as a guide.

Atlas listened to the elf that stood before him, his arms crossed in disbelief. He seriously doubted that they would wander around lost for months within the forest. It may have been possible if they tried to find civilization within the massive maze of trees, but just to get out, the golem could simply create another transport, and go in a straight line until they reached somewhere else.
But then again, Cimorene knew a lot more about Gaia Forest than either Atlas or Roxy. It was very much possible that the forest was enchanted, and designed to trap wanderers inside unless a very specific path was taken. As such, Atlas relucatntly agreed with Cimorene's logic. He turned to face Roxy and shrugged.
"I guess we don't have a choice but to go along with her."

"I guess we don't have a choice but to go along with her."
We must have been thinking along the same lines; enchantments, dangers, etc...ugh. He was right, we didn't have a choice. I turned to her, slowly letting out a breath through my nose while narrowing my eyes. She simply continued to smile pleasantly, watching me calmly as if her dearest wish and goal in life was to help us. Sappy. Gross. Ew.
"Fine, whatever"! I finally yelled. She didn't seem to mind being yelled at; if anything, she became even sweeter and more cheerful. "Well, alright then! Follow me!"
I slowly began to follow, one reluctant step at a time. Life really sucks. Especially my life. I mean, the one really good thing that had happened to me throughout this whole thing was meeting Atlas. My step faltered as I thought about what might have happened if I had never met him.
I may have died in the desert, or if not, who knows what Kadin might have done to me? A shudder ran through my body at the horrifying thought. Bad. Very bad.
Unconsciously, I reached out and looped an arm around Atlas' metal one. I guess I was reassuring myself that he was still with me.

Atlas continued staring at the elven girl in both disbelief and slight irritation. Never in his life had he met someone so upbeat about everything, nor did he think he would ever again meet someone like her. That couldn't truly be counted as fair, seeing as Atlas has never met too much of anyone during his solitary existence. As their guide began walking, so did they, on their long trek to who-knows-where. As he continued walking, reluctantly listening to the almost incoherent rambling of Cimorene, Atlas senses Roxy's arm hook around his, and curls his arm to better support her. His other hand, however, constantly rested on the hilt of one of his four katanas, trusting neither the forest or this too-upbeat-for-her-own-good guide.
"Do you intend for us to walk the entire trip to wherever it is you're taking us?"
Atlas thought back to Cimorene stating that it would take weeks on horseback to reach the nearest anything, and here they were walking. If they continued at their current pace, it would prove more beneficial to actually head back the way they came, then found a way around this ridiculously large forest.
