It was like heaven.
Wildflowers of every shape and size surrounded them in a brilliant array of color. Azures and bisques, chartreause and slate...all of the most exotic reaches of the rainbow right there, before them. Two majestic trees, covered in vines of delicate white flowers and ivy, formed an archway by which to enter the city. The songs of birds filled the air, the scent of flowers a perfume that was irresistable and faint, clinging to the city itself. Laughter was audible beyond the lovely stone of the walls, also covered in ivy and blooms of all hues.
Nimue was frozen, her perfect, pink lips parted in a silent gasp of wonder. Her form was still for a moment, her eyes widening as she struggled to take in the etherreal majesty, the breathtaking radiance, of the capital city. An old myth came to mind about the city once being the place where the angels, sent by the Gods to look after their subjects, would land first upon the earth, and so it was blessed. It certainly seemed possible. Something about this city called to her like nothing had ever done before. Even her skin seemed to be illuminated by the golden light shimmering down from above through the trees.
"Oh, Bayn, look..." she whispered, hardly able to speak. "It's just as I imagined. No, better. Oh, and those flowers...I could stay here forever." As she spoke, Nimue wandered forward and let her slender fingers grace one closed flower. Immediately, the flower sprang into bloom, the petals shimmering with an unearthly light for just a split second and unfurling to her touch, revealing a silvery-blue inside. She jumped back, her melodious laughter like wind chimes as she expressed her delight. "Did you see that? Oh, heavens."
Now her attention was diverted as a tiny bird landed on her shoulder. It was a lovely blue, light enough to almost be white, but with intricate designs in a darker cobalt and cerucean. She gasped, startled, as it looked at her with friendly eyes. Then it chirped and rose into the air, swiftly flying through the arch and into the city.
"Let's go," she said, grabbing Bayn's hand with no mind for the magnificent falcon which had alighted on his shoulder. It gave her an irritated look, but continued to perch on the demi-god's arm, moving closer to his neck for safety. Nimue tugged him through the arch, and the falcon, too, flew off.
Within the city was more beauty. Everyone there seemed so...happy. Nimue was delighted as each passerby greeted them cheerfully, recognizing them as strangers to their lively community--considering how the arch was very much visible to most of the city. It wasn't necessarily a big city, after all. Nimue returned the greetings warmly, and after some time, turned to face him with absolute bliss shimmering in her aquamarine eyes. "Where shall we go first?" she asked, but her attention was caught by a fine looking stallion being led past towards another few horses. The stable there had a sign clearly stating that there were mounts to rent and buy, and she smiled. Fate seemed determined to help her, today. "Nevermind, look there." she said, pointing out the stable. "Will that do?"
At that moment, someone was walking from said stable, and looked over. He was a man of perhaps 50 years, with a warm, open face. He looked like he could be someone's favorite uncle or grandfather...just that sort of friendly, wiseness about him.
"Hello there, Miss...and you too, sir." he said, striding over and offering a hand to Nimue. She took it gladly, and the man offered it to Bayn as well. Regardless of whether or not Bayn accepted it, he went on with a warm smile. "Would you be in need of horses, then?"
Nimue nodded after a second of thought. "We were consulting about it, yes." she admitted carefully. The girl had grown up amongst scams and was good at detecting them--and heading them off, for that matter. The man nodded. "Well, this would be the place, if you're planning on a long journey. Our horses are all well-bred and taken care of. My name is Faiceon, by the way, but friends call me Ce. Now, would you care to take a look around our stables?"
Nimue paused for only a moment. There had been no manipulation in his words, just mild interest and a gregarious wish to assist. Determining that there was no harm in it, and knowing that Bayn had likely come to the same conclusion, she nodded again and smiled. Some girls may have deliberated, playing up to Bayn by hesitating and asking his permission, but she saw no need to when she was completely confident that she had judged Ce correctly and found him free of dishonesty. Her knowledge of such things might even have impressed him, but of course she wasn't thinking of that at the moment; her thoughts were completely on their need for horses and what, exactly, they were looking for.
Upon arriving in the stables, she stumbled slightly in shock. All around them were perhaps the most majestic horses she had ever laid eyes on, in a wide variety of breeds and colors. Each was clearly healthy, and most appeared rather sociable, judging by the number of heads that stuck out of the stalls and nosed her as she moved by. Nimue couldn't help the smile that was spreading across her face; a gentle, loving one tha an animal lover gains when finding him or herself amongst the finest of all.
"I imagine you're looking for a horse good for distance, eh?" Ce inquired mildly. "And pro'lly tame enough for the young miss here, meaning no offense, 'course."
"None taken," Nimue murmured, stroking a lovely roan's mane. The mare looked at her with an intelligent sparkle in her dark eyes. "I hardly know my way around the saddle, let alone the horse itself."
Turning, she looked at Bayn for his imput on the horse or horses necessary. Some part of her was looking to see how he was handling all of this; it was difficult to tell with him.
