The Den was a passable Inn in the middle of a village that could only be described as 'vaguely' near any major landmarks, other than the Temple.
Their room was good, as far as inn rooms go. There were two beds that could be pushed together if necessary. The mattresses weren't exactly goose down, but they were comfortable enough for those on the road. There was a fireplace with a chimney (at least, a metal pipe that ran to the roof so they wouldn't suffocate in the middle of the night), an old oil lantern that needed filling, a couch, and a small table with two rickety chairs.
None of this mattered to the man standing by the only window in the room.
His dark brown hair was touseled, messy in a sexy way. Actually, everything about him was sexy, from his lean, but muscled physique, to the fine features of his face, to the low, smooth tones of his voice. His eyes, dark as night save for the smattering of golden flecks, were the only sign that there was more than one presense in that body.
Charon ran a hand through his hair in a very Orpheus-ish motion, a habit he had picked up from his host long ago. Not that he often had the chance to use it; Orpheus Nyx was a strong man, and he kept the demon and angel trapped in his mind under control. It was really just too bad that Orphie had gone and gotten himself nearly-killed and let his girlfriend get kidnapped.
Naminé...the source of, and solution to, all of their problems. She was a lithe, brown-doe-eyed, dark-haired siren with a fiery temper, sharp tongue, and even sharper wit. This girl had wormed her way into all their hearts, even Charon's, who's heart was practically nonexistant. And now he had been forced to take over for Orpheus and save the da.mn woman.
Normally, it would be dangerous for anyone to be so near Lamya's temple, but Charon knew the Goddess of Seduction well. In fact, he had taught her much of what she knew. She was still head-over-heels in love with him, as far as he had heard. Not that he cared, really. He should have had his own shrine.
He turned again to look at Naminé. She had barely said a word since he rescued her from her psychotic parents.
[glow=red,2,300]"Alright, that's it. What's the problem?"[/glow]

The light from the full moon outside streamed in through the window, illuminating all of the swirling dust motes in the air. In any other setting, with any other substance, it would have seemed beautiful, but Naminé and Charon were holed up in some inn called The Den, not in some magical paradise. Of course, it was far better than the place she'd just been rescued from, and the company, although egotistical, was equally as welcome.
Slowly, Naminé's wide chocolate eyes swept their way across the interior of the room, and away from the slightly dusty window. Oh, she supposed it was a nice enough room, it wasn't Orpheus' place, but she'd never been one for extravagent things. This room, however, irked her only because Orpheus was still unconscious. With Orpheus by her side, she could handle anything with ease, and she'd probably be gushing about how homey this room was. Without him, everything once again looked bleak and her future hopless.
As she was scouring the room she felt familiar, yet unfamiliar, eyes focus upon her, and she turned her head to meet Charon's midnight gaze.
"Alright, that's it. What's the problem?"
"It was too simple," she murmured, her dark hair falling over her shoulders and hiding her troubled eyes. "That wasn't the place I'd been held at as a child. There was equipment missing, and subjects gone, and there use to be security systems there, but this place had none of that. Only the one machine where I'd gotten my wings burned in."

((a girl for him? hmm...sexy...head-over-heels in love with him... Charon: So, characterize yourself, Kitsune. Me: You slimeball Charon: Me? Never. )) "It was too simple...That wasn't the place I'd been held at as a child. There was equipment missing, and subjects gone, and there use to be security systems there, but this place had none of that. Only the one machine where I'd gotten my wings burned in." she told him. Charon watched her, his gaze piercing as he read into her words and actions. In all honestly, the simplicity of their escape had set him on edge as well. Normally, he'd boast that they had sensed his power and fled, but there was something about how easy it had all been that made him rethink it. [glow=red,2,300] "Perhaps some misfortune has befallen them. That would be fitting, would it not? As far as I can tell, it's a very good thing that our escape was made easy." [/glow] He'd never admit he was as alarmed as she was, though. That was too much pride to swallow. [glow=red,2,300] "Now, what are you afraid of?"[/glow]

"Perhaps some misfortune has befallen them. That would be fitting, would it not? As far as I can tell, it's a good thing that our escape was made easy. Now, what are you afraid of?" he asked, in that frustratingly smooth voice.
She scoffed. As if. The gods would never grant her such a blessing as having something happen to her parents, that'd just be too easy, and she'd never been that lucky. Sighing she allowed herself to admit that it was a good thing that the escape had been easy, it just ruffled her feathers. As she thought about her feathers, her midnight black wings slipped from her back and it's tips wrapped lightly around her, as if in a gesture of comfort.
"What am I afraid of? Oh, a lot of things. One, that it was that easy on purpose, and they're planning something, two, I really wasn't rescued and I'm dreaming, three, that I hadn't healed Orpheus well enough, four, that he screwed him up somehow when he was healing him... Lots of things. Would you like me to continue?" she asked, lifting her eyes up to meet Charon's gaze.

Would you like me to continue?"
Ah, that was much more like the fiesty girl he knew and was frequently irritated by. Charon's swirling orbs narrowed as he suddenly noticed the wings wrapped around her, the dipped head, the faint tremors that she may or may not have noticed in her muscles...she was upset, and not just typical girly-hysteria. This was a strong woman, and whether she knew it or not, some part of her seemed to be completely lost and utterly terrified.
So, the cold, nihilistic, egocentric, ruthless, blood-thirsty, power-hungry demon had a moment of something that no other demon of his stature ever had before. He had a moment of--horrors of horrors--empathy and compassion. He assured himself that it must have been a temporary insanity.
Charon walked over and slowly, hesitantly, wrapped one strong arm around her shoulders, sitting her down on the bed with him. His wings gently furled around her as he stroked her hair, careful not to be too intimate. If she thought he was hitting on her, she'd hit him, and not metaphorically, either.
[glow=red,2,300]"That's my girl. You'll be fine. It takes more than whatever that disgusting excuse for a demon can do to kill an idiot like Orpheus. He'll keep bouncing back even when the better option is to stay dead. Of course, he's not even dead, Naminé. He's in something like a coma...but my guess is he should snap out of it in a day or so."[/glow]

ooc// O.o woah! has hell frozen over? i think so. I knew you were a big softy, Charon *leaps into arms*
bic// Everything in her life seemed to be changing. First she'd met Orpheus, the best luck she'd ever experience in her life. Then she'd fallen in love with him, and he with her, even greater luck. Now this. Now Charon was being uncharacteristically compassionate. What the hell was going on?! She'd never been this lucky ever, and the sudden reversal of her life constantly freaked her out, but never more than the moment when Charon wrapped an arm loosely over her shoulder and sat down beside her, stroking her hair. His wings even enveloped her, trying to add some sort of comfort to her troubled, quaking body.
If it wasn't so unlike him, or if he hadn't spoke the words he uttered next, she might have thought he was hitting on her. Then again, she knew that he knew better than that. If he ever tried, she'd most likely "bop him one".

He'll keep bouncing back even when the better option is to stay dead. Of course, he's not even dead, Naminé. He's in something like a coma...but my guess is he should snap out of it in a day or so." he murmured, as he continued to try to comfort him.
Naminé found that her eyes had grown wide and her body tense. Slowly she relaxed, and her eyes fell closed as the shock wore off. "I never would have taken you for a softy, Charon," she murmured, not able to help herself, [colori=darkblue]"And I thought you didn't care." [/color] Taking in a deep breath she added a little more loudly, "You're right. It'll be okay. Um...Thank you." Finding that she was sitting a bit straighter, she smiled just a bit. "I have a feeling this is probably making your flesh crawl. You can stop if you'd like." she chuckled, her eyes filling with mirth. She was actually very thankful to Charon, although he probably wasn't too happy that she'd just teased him for being nice, but it just meant he'd helped.[/size][/blockquote]

((ooc--charon: I'm gonna have to iceskate home.... *deathglare* NO! I AM NOT A SOFTIE!!! me: sorry that this post is a little...bad lol))
“I never would have taken you for a softy, Charon…and I thought you didn’t care." she informed him once the initial shock of being ‘comforted’ by the demon had dissolved. He growled, shooting her a glare that was anything but soft.
[glow=red,2,300]”Watch your mouth, girl. Who says I care? If you’re all emotional, it might—er—distract from our goal.” [/glow]
he snapped, but much to his horror, he felt heat rushing to his face. No! He, Charon, a High Demon, blushing?! Da.mn this accursed mortal body!
"You're right. It'll be okay. Um...Thank you."
[glow=red,2,300] “You’re…welcome.”[/glow] he said slowly, the words coming out as though unfamiliar to him.
Ah, good. She seemed to be feeling better; sitting up more, and now her eyes were glittering. Tears? No…wait! She was laughing at him! Ingrate!
Nonchalantly, Naminé said, "I have a feeling this is probably making your flesh crawl. You can stop if you'd like."
He let go of her like she was on fire and turned his head away, cheeks burning with a livid blush that was only serving to embarrass him twice as much as he was in the first place.
[glow=red,2,300] “Indeed. So. Ahem.”[/glow]

ooc// awww, im sorry, love. you're not a softy.
bic// Naminé's lips twitched as she saw Charon blush. The Gods could strike her dead now, she decided, simply because she had now seen it all. Charon, the immortally cold hearted, had not only just hugged and tried to comfort her, but was now blushing like a little school girl. She tried, for his sake, not to laugh again because she knew that it had been a huge crush to his ego the first time, plus he had been trying to be nice, no matter how he tried to excuse himself.
"Indeed. So. Ahem."
Naminé pursed her lips, and squinted her eyes to keep from bursting from her laughter. Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself and got to her feet. "Sorry about that. Okay, so...we'll stay here tonight, then what?" she questioned, smoothing her dark hair from her even darker eyes.

"Sorry about that. Okay, so...we'll stay here tonight, then what?"
He let out a sigh of relief; she had let it drop. No doubt she would hold it over his head for the rest of her mortal life, but that wouldn't last forever. Now, though, his pride needed time to heal.
[glow=red,2,300]"Then we wait and see if your parents make a move. We need to determine what power they still hold."[/glow]
A plan was already forming in his mind. Charon knew he'd be calling in old favors, favors he usually wouldn't dream of using unless he was in danger of being banished to a seperate, isolated plane of existance--the demonic version of death, in a way--and yet, he was still driven to consider them. After all, Charon wasn't a High Demon for nothing; and where best to call upon demons than at the temple of Lamya, the woman who would always answer his prayers? Of course, he never prayed to her--Charon couldn't stand the very *friendly* person, but she still had a thing for him--but she'd be happy to help him all the same.
((kinda bad, sorry. OOHHH, can I create Lamya??? PLEAAASEEE??? lmfao))

ooc// for me?
bic// Naminé found herself nodding, although she grimanced. She didn't like waiting on her parents. "I'm sure you'd like to have a little fun, but personally I'd be a-okay with my parents backing off. Did you hear my mother's accent? It's horrendice (sp?)!" she murmured, blanching. Really, she didn't understand how she had turned out as she had, not only did she have absolutely no accent, that she knew of, but her mother was short and average, while she was tall and beautiful - or at least, that's what she'd been told.
"What power they still hold? They have minions from every type of being, and all sorts of powers all ready to obey their every command. It's not a matter of what powers they still hold, it's what powers they now have." she sighed. Personally, she didn't think they'd come after her quite yet. They'd let her get away for a reason, it simply meant that they were planning something and they weren't ready yet.

((horrendous )) "What power they still hold? They have minions from every type of being, and all sorts of powers all ready to obey their every command. It's not a matter of what powers they still hold, it's what powers they now have." Charon stared at her. What...did...she...think...he...was? "And just what do you think we have, girl?" He asked, disgruntled at her lack of faith. "Don't you know who I am, Namine? Have you any idea?"Honestly, the nerve of her, to assume that he was powerless? If she wasn't so important to him--ahem, Orpheus--he would have killed her right then and there. Crushed her mortal head right in. Actually, he'd rather kiss her, but---no. None of that right now. He was in Orpheus' body, in a hotel room, alone with her....No. "We don't need monsters at our command, Naminé. We have legions of demons who will take up our cause at a word from myself and elliminate your parents and all their creations in a heartbeat."

Naminé found her eyebrows raising up high, and she put her hand on her hip. Her slim body looked outragiously gorgeous even in the strange setting. "Charon, I am not underestimating you. I know, quite obviously, that you are extremely powerful. Duh. Hello, no-one who looks like you could be anything less than extremely powerful. I'm not stupid. I know the way of the world. It's those who are most gorgeous that have the most power. Calm yourself. I am still "human" though, so I am allowed to worry about these things." she chuckled.
ooc// sorry. its gross. i babbled.

Pride effectively soothed, he looked at her for a long moment, then nodded. "As you wish, then. Now, all I can say is that I'd like to get some sleep. Since there's only one bed, are you opposed to sharing, or shall I take the floor?" he asked in a monotone, trying to sound like it didn't matter one way or another. In all honesty, though, Orpheus' body ached, and Charon didn't like it much at all.
((ugh, it's nasty lol))

ooc// we're both having issues with this one at the moment lol
bic// Naminé pursed her lips. Hm...would sleeping in the same bed with Charon in his current state be considered cheating? Somehow she doubted it, still it would be a little weird. Oh, well. She knew that Orpheus' body needed somewhere soft to rest, and she too was tired, so they'd just have to share. "We can share." she said firmly. Then, she turned around and proceeded to strip down to her undergarments and then pull a silk shift over her head. Charon could just deal. Somehow she figured he wouldn't mind.

((Alright, well, this post may not come out as well as I’d hoped, but it should be sufficient as a make-up-post for my constant skipping out lately : ) ))
Charon steeled himself and turned away as she began to pull off her clothes, refusing to let his arrogance get in the way of what he knew was really happening. She had proven herself faithful--and supremely stubborn--to Orpheus time and time again, and he would get nowhere by convincing himself that she was looking for entertainment. Besides, for whatever reason, he found that he had no wish to struggle with her, make her miserable, and then make her want him.
Charon, are you ill? Liora’s voice finally broke the ominous silence that occupied the space of time that was usually filled with sarcastic comments from whomever was within the mind at that time. With a profound sense of relief, he fell into the familiar pattern of bantering with the angelic presence he had been trapped with for so long.
I suppose I must be.[/I[ He paused, for the first time at a loss for what insult or scathing comment to fling at her.
Oh, Charon, the angel’s voice was filled with an emotion he’d never heard in it before, well, at least, not directed at him. It’s not weakness to care, you know.
Emotion is weakness, Liora. It causes hesitation where hesitation is fatal.[/I] he snarled back, yanking free of the conversation and instead focusing on dropping his clothes until he was in naught but his trousers. Climbing into the bed, he turned away from her and concentrated on the wall.
((okay…it wasn’t half as good as I’d hoped, but my next post will help make up for it))
